Twenty plus years of existence . . . Where am I now? Did I take the right path? Did I make the right choices? Did I find my passion and purpose? Did I find the answers to my questions? Did I embrace the process fully? Did I add value and meaning into my life? What makes my heart beat the hardest? What actions should I take to make my dreams a reality? Which direction should I choose next? How far can I go? Where will my passion take me? What is my journey all about?
At a certain point, the answer is YES. At some point, the answer is NO. Sometimes, I know the answers. Sometimes, I just don’t know. And most of the time, I am so unsure of the answers.
I can see in your eyes; it’s speaking, asking the same questions, too. And we know full well life will bombard us so many questions that are yet to be answered. But one thing’s for sure: God will guide us continually, giving us the map and handing us the right key to the golden trunk of happiness.
Sure, life doesn’t always turn the way I want, but I oblige to remain positive about everything that’s happening in my life. I wander through life’s mystery—looking for answers to my questions, finding my passion and purpose, igniting my truest dreams, adding value and creating meaning to my life—giving me the realization that despite the grueling tussles this life is casting me, there’s more in store for me and that there’s no reason for me to back down.
I remember when I was younger, I had so many ideas on what I want to be when I grow up: a doctor, a scientist, a bank manager, an astronaut, an architect, and so on. Funny how things turned out as years went by. By God’s grace, I became an RN (Resting Nurse to be accurate, since I didn’t pursue it after passing the board exam. Pun intended.) So where did the wind of opportunity take me then? The wind swiftly blew me in the direction of the unexpected. I got a job where I handled creative works as a Multimedia Artist. I also worked as a Marketing Officer, offering loans to elementary school teachers. And for years, I persuaded people to join me on my Multilevel Marketing business (You might think it’s a scam. But no, it’s not a scam. It’s a legitimate company, and I super love their products.) The thing is, I wasn’t sure of the path I was sailing. I am the captain of my ship, yet I was failing to manage to steer my ship’s wheel as I was too confused whether I should turn to the right or the left. Unnoticeably, I slowly lost sight of the land of my dreams, and wafted so far off course I could only see everything as the same. Thankfully, as I was faced with decisions and choices, I gained the confidence to follow my inner magnetic compass which directed me to the direction of my dreams.
The waves of life hit me hard with choices and surged me into different directions, then slowly drifted me into the shore of freedom. Freedom to finally take the path I want to walk. Freedom from negative emotions—emotions that built up, and miserably creeping in my soul. I chose to walk away from the comfort zone of complacency. And without a doubt, it did great wonders in my life.
See, life really is packed with unpredictable and strange surprises. One day you’re here. One day you’re there. Every step you take will bring you either to a place of iffy wonder or into a maze of questions and choices. Take heed and look into your heart. Did you hear the sound of your heart beating for something it deeply desires? Did you see what’s in it? Listen closely and look intensely. The heart of your life map’s in it. You have it! It’s yours and no one can steal it away from you—the map that will help you goof-proof your life’s journey.
While you are so pumped to sail in this world, expect that there will always be a villain, too. Villains will always be there, everywhere. Sometimes, people will mock you. They will laugh at your dreams. Ignore them. Screw them! I’ve actually had my share of hurtful memories and embarrassing experiences, and I know how it felt horribly awful. My take is that just continue the trek amidst the perils and ambiguity of the trail.
True enough, in this world of uncertainty, you’ll go through hard times. You’ll experience suffering in pain and frustration. And it sucks sometimes. But in contrast, you’ll learn the greatest lessons from these experiences. Fall in love with the process of creating a life worth living. Like a seed growing into an iconic tree, you’ll emerge stronger and better as time goes by.
Crafting a journey worth reminiscing is all in your creative hands. You are able; you have the power to shape the story of your life. Feel your heart in every single step you make. Hear the music of your heart that resonates in your soul; the soothing music flowing, seeping through your veins. Imagine . . . Imagine yourself lying beneath a sky full of twinkling stars with arms wide open as if you’re about to embrace the fullness of life. You are surrounded with fireflies flashing before your eyes, and as you watch the trees slow dancing to the tune of the wind that blows kisses of cold air to your skin; as you sing along with the birds whistling and the frogs croaking around you, you slowly close your eyes, immersing yourself in deep connection to the universe and just be in the present moment. You are living in the moment, feeling alive. That’s what it should be. That’s how you should be in every moment of your journey.
Even if you aren’t sure where this life will lead you, even if you don’t know what’s going to happen, have the courage to always follow your heart, to explore the possibilities in every area of your life. As long as your heart is in it and you’re all in, you’re good. As for me, it’s been quite a long journey before I had such an epiphany, but the wisdom of looking back today makes me realize how blessed I am.
Yes, you’ll have that constant feeling of fear of uncertainty—causing anxiety and worry. Don’t let it linger in you. Kick the fear habit, and start experiencing more from life. Leave the job that makes you unhappy. Go travel alone. Seek for more adventures. Indulge yourself in solitude. Start a new business. Meet new people. Don’t let yourself miss out on these life-changing experiences; these will add meaning and value to your life.
Embrace the full range of your life experiences—all the sad and happy moments and everything in between. Because life isn’t just about sunshine and rainbows; there will always be storms in life. Learn to accept what is, and continue moving towards your life in the unknown. Your quest through life, as uncertain as it may be, will become clearer and better in God’s perfect time.
